New South Wales Police are trying to find the mother of an abandoned newborn baby in Sydney's west.

The days-old baby girl was found outside a home on Girra Road in Blacktown on Friday afternoon.

Police said emergency services were called to the address just before 3pm, where officers from Blacktown Police Area Command found the baby outside the two-storey house.

Police believe the baby may have been left at the house between 12:30pm and 2:40pm.

NSW Ambulance paramedics initially treated the newborn at the scene before she was taken to Blacktown Hospital.

The ABC understands she's in a stable condition.

A police operation is underway in the area, with police looking for the mother.

Police said the baby is not known to the home owners where the newborn was found.
