New Zealand beaten by Argentina at home as historic defeat rocks All Blacks

New Zealand have suffered their first ever home defeat to Argentina to renew the pressure on coach Ian Foster.

The Pumas won 25-18 in Christchurch amid scenes of wild celebration to go to the top of the Rugby Championship table, having also beaten Australia a fortnight ago.

The pressure on beleaguered All Blacks coach Foster looked to have been eased when his team defeated South Africa 35-23 in Johannesburg in the last round. But now it is sure to be ratcheted up again.

New Zealand took the try count 2-1, with hooker Samisoni Taukei’aho and winger Caleb Clarke crossing against a touchdown from flanker Juan Martín González.

But it was the boot of deadly Argentine winger Emiliano Boffelli that proved the difference between the sides, with the Edinburgh utility back landing all seven shots at goal as the visitors turned around a 15-12 half-time deficit.

In today’s other game in the Rugby Championship, Australia defeated South Africa 25-17 in Adelaide. It is proving to be the most open tournament for years.
