New York flight diverted to Scottish airport due to 'mid-air emergency'

A SCANDINAVIAN Airlines flight from New York to Copenhagen has been diverted to Edinburgh Airport due to an onboard emergency.

The flight set off from New York Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday at around 7.58pm, almost three hours after it was due to depart, and was due to arrive at Copenhagen Airport in Denmark.

However, according to reports, the Scandinavian Airlines flight was diverted to the Scottish capital’s airport, where it landed at around 6.27am on Sunday.

The plane reportedly sent out a squawk code of 7700, an internationally recognised transponder code used by aircrafts to indicate to air traffic control that there is an emergency.

The exact nature of the mid-air emergency is not yet known at this stage.

Scandinavian Airlines has been approached for comment.
