New Times website for students covering their schools debuts: HS Insider

Dec. 11--Here's some exciting news for high school sports fans. A new website created by The Times, HS Insider, debuts. It will feature student journalists covering their own high schools and creating videos and stories and providing inside information about their sports teams.

Fifty high schools in Southern California so far have signed up to allow student journalists to cover their schools. If you want to join in, please have your journalism advisor or English teacher representative contact Houston.Mitchell@latimes.com.

Here's the link to the website that is already live with material produced by student journalists with editing help from The Times.

Among the schools participating are Garfield, Chaminade, Harvard-Westlake, Granada Hills and Servite. All have already started producing material about their high school sports teams.

It's a great way for students to get some experience in journalism and for fans to gain some insights into schools from a student's perspective.

Let's all celebrate the chance of young people to tell stories of their fellow students at a local level that should provide some interesting reads in the coming weeks and months.

Check out the website and see if your school is participating and check out the other schools to see what's happening.
