A massive new timber factory in a F alkirk industrial estate will create up to 100 new jobs in the area.
Falkirk Council granted permission today (Monday, June 6) for the construction of the new two-storey facility at Abbotsford Business Park.
Stewart Milne Timber Systems Ltd will are creating the new factory to keep up with a huge surge in demand on the housing market after the pandemic.
The site at Ivanhoe Drive has been vacant since 2007 after the aluminium manufacturer Alcan closed their Falkirk operation.
A residential area is located just to the north of the site but Falkirk Council were satisfied that noise form the factory would not impact on local residents after an impact assessment.
Now, the timber factory will be built on the land, with a new car park being created and fencing installed outside.
The car park will have 127 regular spaces, six accessible and a further six charging points for electric vehicles.
The Stewart Milne Group provided a business plan on the planning application and promised to create jobs.
It stated: “The development is located on a four hectare site within the core business site for jobs and economy specifically identified as business area.
“The factory proposal boasts a production area of 7300m2 with integral office space which will be in the region of 1400m2 on 2 storys. The business plan comprises of two phases.
“Phase One is intended to create around 100 jobs as production ramps up and the second phase will focus on automation innovation to streamline the operations.”
The planning application was initially lodged June of 2021 but Stewart Milne Timber Systems have since been taken over by the Donaldson Group.
