As we inch closer to the WWE 2K26 release, there are quite a lot of questions around new wrestlers making their way to the game. For weeks, there has been a lot of speculation that AAA wrestlers will make their debut in 2K26. Today, Adrian Butler, senior referee for WWE NXT and producer for Mexico’s Lucha Libre AAA, further stirred the pot with the following post on Twitter/X:
The post shows a photo of Adrian Butler (Darryl Sharma) himself alongside other AAA referees. With the caption featuring the WWE 2K26 hashtag, this is a direct nod to the possibility of AAA’s inclusion in WWE 2K26. For years, the WWE 2K series has focused on the WWE umbrella exclusively. The developers occasionally dip into ECW or WCW for nostalgia, but anything beyond that remains to be seen.
What The AAA Partnership Could Look Like For WWE 2K26
We previously talked about whether or not TNA stars can make an appearance in WWE 2K26. The problem with that idea is that WWE doesn’t own TNA, so getting rights/licenses for wrestlers can be time-consuming and costly. That same problem doesn’t exist with AAA, as WWE basically owns them.
Here’s what a user on the r/WWEGames subreddit thinks:
“If I were gonna put money on it, I’d say you’ll probably get 2-3 AAA guys plus an arena as unlockables in the MyRise and anyone beyond that’ll be DLC.”
Maybe we see a dedicated “Lucha Libre” chapter in MyRise. The mode could ask players to travel to Mexico and compete in a recreation of the iconic Triplemania area. This would allow 2K to introduce a handful of high-profile AAA stars — the likes of Mr. Iguana, Psycho Clown, and Pagano.
However, given the technical hurdles of full-roster integration, the DLC route seems to be the most logical. By including a couple of marquee names as unlockables, they can test the waters for interest in a dedicated AAA DLC pack down the line. This might please the hardcore fanbase, but more importantly, give some variety to a series that lacks Mexican/indie wrestling influence and culture. If the tease we’ve seen today is any indication, that boundary may get erased soon.
