New Stewarton Aldi store gets green light from planners

Permission to build an Aldi store next to Sainsbury’s has been granted.

The people of Stewarton could be shopping at the German supermarket soon after the proposal was given the green light.

Plans for the Rigg Street build were submitted earlier this year – with planning bosses attaching a number of conditions to the project.

Work on the new supermarket could get under way in January 2020 with the structure completed in August.

Permission was given to Aldi to build a store on the site four years ago but architects have made a number of changes from when the first application that was lodged.

Plans for a two-storey shop have been scrapped and the new offering could provide up to 35 new jobs for the area.

The 1611 sq m outlet will have 81 car parking spaces, five of which are ‘accessible’ and five that are designated parent and child.
