New stadium for 2020 Games nearing completion

It is expected to be less than a year until the construction of the New National Stadium is completed, as the contours of the oval stadium, which will be the main venue of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, can be clearly seen.

Construction of the stadium started in December 2012 -- it was changed from the initial plan, which was canceled due to excessive costs that were seen as problematic. However, construction has been progressing well.

"It is progressing as scheduled. From now, it will be completed in one stretch," said an official of the Japan Sport Council, an entity in charge of construction of the New National Stadium.
