New Southside market set to pop up at Shawlands Arcade this weekend

A new regular Southside market is set for its first weekend, after a successful period during the Southside Fringe Festival.

The Makers Fair begins on August 27, and will continue on the last weekend of every month. Southside Fringe, along with Art Space G41, were approached by Shawlands Arcade to make use of the currently unoccupied Farmoods unit inside the shopping centre.

Alongside the stalls, a selection of live music will also be held in the unit during market weekends.

A spokesperson for the Southside Fringe said: “It’s such an exciting time on the Southside of Glasgow, with discerning local shoppers being spoiled for choice with regular markets throughout the year.

“In addition to this new makers fair on the block, Southsiders and folks from further afield can take a wander around Park Lane Market this Sunday. The new regular Southside Makers Fair in Shawlands Arcade strengthens and solidifies an exciting partnership between two Southside social enterprises.”

The market is set to provide a platform for up to 26 makers each day. Those looking to book a stall can find out more here.

Makers Fair adds to an already thriving schedule of markets in the area, including The Cooperage and Park Lane Market. Additionally, The third Saturday of each month sees This Is Not A Craft Market held at The Deep End on Nithsdale Street.

The Shawlands Farmers Market is also held on the first and third Saturday of every month.
