New rules on face coverings in schools and how they affect your family

Secondary pupils will have to wear face coverings in some parts of their schools and over fives on all buses and taxis transporting them.

The Scottish Government announced the changes today after a change in World Health Organisation guidance.

But what does this mean in reality for youngsters when they leave the house in the morning?

School transport - anyone over the age of five must wear a face covering on school transport, unless they are in an exempt category.

Classrooms - pupils are not expected to wear face coverings in classrooms and other learning environments. Adults should however wear them in circumstances were they are interacting face-to-face for a sustained period (15mins or more) and unable to keep a 2m distance.

Secondary schools - face masks should be worn but students and adults (except where they are exempt) in all corridors and common areas, including toilets, but excluding classrooms, where physical distancing is difficult to maintain.

Primary schools - face coverings are not required for pupils.
