The prospective new owners of Rangers were spotted at Ibrox on Tuesday as the US-led consortium edges closer to completing a landmark takeover of the Glasgow club.
Key figures including lead investor Andrew Cavenagh, Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe, and San Francisco 49ers supremo Jed York were in Glasgow this week as final preparations are made for a deal that would see the American group acquire a 51 percent controlling stake in Rangers. Also in attendance was Leeds technical director Gretar Steinsson, who has been involved behind the scenes in recent strategic appointments at the club.
The high-profile visit came just days before the final Old Firm clash of the season, with interim manager Barry Ferguson also seen at the stadium as the red carpet was rolled out for the consortium.
Speculation had swirled online earlier in the day after Ibrox stadium tours were abruptly cancelled, prompting questions about what was taking place behind closed doors.
A statement released last week confirmed for the first time that “productive conversations” had taken place between Rangers’ current controlling shareholders and the US group, which is being spearheaded by Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group.

The update read: "Rangers and its existing controlling shareholders are in productive conversations with the two lead members of the Consortium, Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group, about the potential for the Consortium to acquire control of the club and to inject additional capital.
"These discussions reflect a shared recognition of the importance of Rangers FC's long-term direction, ambitions and management."
Cavenagh, a health sector tycoon who made his fortune in the captive insurance market, first visited Ibrox back in January for a 3-1 win over St Johnstone, and has since been a regular presence at key matches — including the 3-2 victory over Celtic in March. Steinsson and other members of the group have also attended European nights, notably the 3-1 away win against Fenerbahçe in Istanbul.
This latest visit included a tour of the stadium and meetings with key figures at the club. The Rangers Review understands the consortium also visited the club’s training centre earlier this year, underlining their growing involvement and commitment to the long-term vision for Rangers.
(Image: X) The timing of the visit comes during a moment of celebration for Leeds United, who recently secured promotion back to the English Premier League — a feat overseen by the very same 49ers Enterprises group now set to take the reins at Ibrox.
With the takeover expected to be finalised in the coming weeks, Rangers supporters will be eagerly watching for what could be a transformational chapter in the club’s modern era — both on and off the pitch.
