A new app geared towards locating missing people with Alzheimer’s could help save lives.
Jim Baird of Alzheimer Scotland described the technology as being like Facebook but for people with the neurodegenerative disease.
Dubbed Purple Alert, the app aims to get community involved in a search for a missing person or someone who has lost their way.
It share information and allows for more eyes and ears on the ground to help with the search.
Jim Baird told the Kilmarnock Standard: “This technology is absolutely critical.

“Many people will be familiar with the GPS technology that was previously used to track people with Alzheimer’s.
“The problem with GPS trackers is that people don’t always pick them up when leaving the house.
“This new app is almost like a version of Facebook but only for people with Alzheimer’s and their families.
“It allows the community to see when someone with Alzheimer’s has gone missing.
“This has already been rolled out and seven people have been found already so it is working.
“This could be saving lives and that’s invaluable.”

Alzheimer Scotland will be promoting the app in Stewarton all next week at the following locations:
●Monday – Stewarton Health Centre.
●Tuesday– Stewarton railway station, area centre and Co-op.
●Wednesday- Stewarton Health Centre.
●Thursday – Stewarton Sainsbury’s supermarket.
●Friday – Stewarton Sainsbury’s and Townhouse.
