New Prestwick clinic aims to bring luxury to dentistry

A new private dental clinic is opening in Prestwick, with its owners looking to bring a bit of luxury to an often disliked process.

Founded by Adam Morgan and his partner Conor, Haus of Dentistry has its soft launch today, with all services being rolled out from 7 October.

Conor Morgan is already a popular cosmetic dentist based in Ayr and wanted to try something new, taking inspiration from Adam's career as a consultant helping create five-star service for hotels like the Four Seasons and Jumeirah chains, as well as other private dental clinics in England and the US.

"We want to fuse these two worlds together, because while there's maybe a few similar places down south, there's nothing like this in Scotland," clinic director Adam commented.

The couple found an old office building on Shaw Road in Prestwick and redesigned it from the ground up.

"There's nice lighting, thick carpets, good smells, great music," Adam explained. "The surgeries are designed so everything is customised to patients and we've invested a lot in digital technologies to get away from the traditional style dentist's office feel that people hate."

As well as offering a range of dental work, with an oral surgeon available two days a week, facial aesthetics specialist Kaly Jaff will also work there once a week.

The new venture has been set up via personal savings and loans from RBS, with more than 1,000 patients registered already - some coming from as far away as Inverness and Dubai - with memberships starting from £20 a month.

"We want to open another clinic on a slightly bigger scale soon, and we'd also like to incorporate private GP services, things like mens health, menopause services and a physio clinic," Adam stated.

He added that the name is derived from the fraternal groups of gay men in the US called hauses, a movement which has been replicated by many in the dentistry industry on the other side of the pond.

"In the US the culture is very much more nurturing and mentoring, as opposed to the UK - typically here a principal hires associates, who then develop themselves, with the attitude to learning being very much on the individual.

"Our clinic is geared up for teaching and we really want to push the profession forward - one of my biggest frustrations is that young dentists are being priced out as practices are bought out by the corporates."
