New PlayStation Store goes live ahead of PS5 release - but some key features are missing

With just three weeks to go before the PlayStation 5 finally goes on sale, Sony has started rolling out its redesigned PlayStation Store website.

The new store will be deployed in various regions across the next week, according to Sony.

In a letter to partners, Sony said: “Our brand-new PlayStation Store launches on web and mobile on the 19th October 2020, and we are making some changes to the intent that can be accessed on PS Store via desktop and mobile devices.”

The new store features a new layout, while support for several services has been removed.

Sony said: “SIE will no longer offer the ability for consumers to purchase PlayStation 3 games and add-ons, PSP (PlayStation Portable) games and add-ons, PlayStation Vita games and add-ons, apps, themes or avatars.”

Thankfully, PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita content will still be available to purchase through the consoles themselves.

While the new PS Store has only just launched, several eagle-eyed fans have already spotted some features missing.

According to fans writing on Reset Era, this includes the ability to filter listings, as well as file size information and screenshots on game play.

There also appears to be no clear distinction between full games and add-ons.

The Store update comes shortly before the official launch of the PlayStation 5.

The official release date is November 12, with fans in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand South Korea able to get their hands on the console on that date.

However, it’s not good news for British PlayStation fans, who will have to wait another week to buy the PS5.

The official UK release date is November 19.

In terms of pricing, the PlayStation 5 is priced at £449.99/ $499.99 / AU$749.95, and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is slightly cheaper at $399.99 / £359.99 / AU$749.95.
