Eyes – We Are the iiEyes
(From Slutty Fringe)
Aim for greatness and you'll inevitably fall short and wind up sounding silly. With this in mind Chicago electro-funk trio Eyes feel free to experiment. Their songs see-saw from brilliant to irritant, but at least they're aware of it.
Pomegranates – Corriander
(From Berkeley Place)
Natural selection works on the internet too. When a lion goes down there's plenty of scavengers out there ready to pick at the carrion. Idolator, a blogsphere lion and the benchmark for indie MP3 blogs since Darwin's day, would have loved this hippy-dippy track from Cincinnati's Pomegranates. It's now up to the smaller beasts to scavenge it.
Slow Down Tallahassee – Angel of Death
Standard Fare – Dancing
(From MySpace via A Layer Of Chips and Thee SPC)
It's worth recreating this pairing virtually, because it was released in the real world as double A-side seven-inch through Sheffield indie label Thee SPC this week. Slow Down Tallahassee are similar to Pixies at their happiest, while the superior Standard Fare play as Los Campesinos! could if they calmed down and bucked linguistic trend by losing the exclamation mark. Anyway, both acts are far too good to be left to vinyl-loving luddites.
Lady Chann – Sticky Situation
(From MySpace via The Heatwave)
Part of north-west London's Suncycle crew, Lady Chann shouts bouncy dancehall rap over a beat by former Lethal Bizzle collaborator, Sticky. Coming soon to a tinny mobile phone speaker on the back of the number 63 after a long day in the office near you.
