New mum Sheridan Smith steps out in Salford as she returns to filming

Sheridan Smith looked radiant as she strolled through Salford Quays after filming her new show.

The award-winning TV and theatre actress was all smiles as she walked hand-in-hand with her fiancé Jamie Horn after shooting scenes for the BBC's Pooch Perfect dog grooming contest at MediaCityUK.

Hopefuls will compete to be crowned the UK’s top dog stylist on the programme and Sheridan, who owns six dogs, will host.

The Cilla and Mrs Biggs star wrote on her Instagram with a photo of herself sitting in front of the cameras: "So good to be back filming. Not this particular shot but being back out there feels great. @poochperfect_uk here we come."

The 39-year-old TV and theatre actress gave birth to her first child, a baby boy named Billy, back in May.

During that time Bafta and Olivier Award-winning Sheridan and Jamie let cameras into their lives to follow their journey to parenthood, and Sheridan opened up on her mental health struggles, past and present.

The ITV documentary, titled Sheridan Smith: Becoming Mum, will be screened on Tuesday at 9pm.

It follows Sheridan as she attends her first scans, pre-natal classes and sessions with a specialist therapist.

The hour-long documentary tells the deeply personal and intimate story of her pregnancy and mental health struggles, past and present, as she prepares to become a mum for the first time.

It is thought that as many as one in three women experience mental health issues in pregnancy and in the months that follow.

The actress, who regularly posts snaps of her pets on Instagram, said she could not resist signing up for the BBC primetime series Pooch Perfect.

Ten pairs of professional dog stylists will be asked to undertake epic transformations of beloved pets in themed challenges.

She said: "To combine my love of dogs with a brand new job presenting for the BBC was a match made in heaven!

"Everyone who knows me will understand that animals, and especially dogs are very special to me.

"I live at home with six dogs, so presenting a show dedicated to our four-legged best friends didn’t take much consideration.

"I’m used to being on set with lots of actors, this time I can’t wait to hang out all day with dozens of dogs. It is literally my dream job!"

Each week, the teams will reveal their creations on The Dogwalk, where the judges will deliberate over the week’s canine contenders, and their owners are given the chance to see their newly transformed dogs for the first time.

As well as amazing ‘transfurmations’, the show will have information for dog lovers and owners, delivering top tips on responsible ownership, fun facts about dog breeds and a guide to at-home pooch pampering techniques.

Sheridan and Jamie are filmed at home as they talk openly of their excitement and nerves about becoming parents.
