New Michael Fatialofa update as Worcester Warriors issue statement after surgery

Worcester Warriors have given an updated medical bulletin on Michael Fatialofa after the Auckland-born lock underwent an operation on his spinal cord on Monday night.

Fatiafola has been in St Mary’s Hospital, London, since Saturday when he was stretchered off in a neck brace during Worcester's 62-5 Gallagher Premiership defeat at Saracens.

Worcester released a statement saying the operation had been a succeess.

"Michael Fatialofa is resting and recovering in St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington having undergone surgery last night to relieve pressure on his spinal cord caused by swelling," the statement said.

"The operation was a success and Michael is stable, but he remains in a serious condition and is receiving on-going care at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.

"The process of recovery and observation of improvement will now begin.

"As always our thoughts and prayers are with Michael and his family who we will continue support however we can as part of the Warriors family.

"Michael and his family are sincerely grateful for the support shown by the rugby community.

"We will update on Michael’s condition as appropriate."

Fatialofa's wife Tatiana also posted a picture of her husband's tattoo, on Instragram which features a quote from the Bible, with the caption: "Michael is the strongest man I know.

"Surgery was a success… but we already knew it would be because if God is for us, who can be against us!”
