New Motherwell boss Alfred Johansson has kicked off his summer recruitment by signing Austrian defender Martin Moormann and Brazil-born Swiss forward Willy Vogt.

Moormann, 25, moves to Fir Park on a two-year contract after spending the past two seasons in the Austrian top flight with BW Linz.

Prior to that, the former Austria Under-21 international made 67 appearances in three seasons in the Rapid Vienna first team.

“Martin is exactly the type of centre-back we require,” manager Johansson told the Well website.

“His fast, physical presence allows him to dominate and help prevent the opposition from creating chances. But he is also technically talented on the ball and is comfortable playing out in difficult situations.

“We identified that this was an area of the pitch we needed to recruit new players for. Martin fits the profile for the left-footed centre-back we need in this area.”

Attacker Vogt, 24, has also joined on a two-year contract from Swiss second-tier side Bellinzona, where he scored 12 goals and provided nine assists last term.

“Willy is an exciting player,” Johansson added. “He had an excellent season last year in Switzerland and will be arriving in Scotland full of confidence.

“He will bring pace and flair to the team. He has played a lot of minutes for a player of his age and can contribute at the top end of the pitch.

“His goal contributions last season show how impactful he can be.”
