Digital: A spokesperson for Facebook has confirmed that around 100 new jobs are on the way to Ireland next year, reports RTÉ News. Facebook employs 200 people at its Europe, Middle East and Africa headquarters in Dublin and says the new jobs will be added over the next year. They are expected to be in advertising, multilingual sales support, finances, human resources, user operations and development, according to Inside Ireland.
Customer service: The Dunfermline Building Society is creating around 120 building society jobs in Scotland, reports the BBC. The society is recruiting for its customer-operations centre based in Fife, including managerial and customer service consultant posts. Recruitment will start in December and run through until early summer 2011.
Technology: The US technology company Genband has announced the creation of 100 jobs in Ireland over the next three years. Genband, a leading developer of internet protocol infrastructure and service solutions, plans to establish its international headquarters and business services centre in Galway. The positions will be in finance, supply chain management, customer support, software development, HR, legal and administrative activities, reports the Press Association.
Hospitality: The hotel chain Travelodge has announced plans to create 200 new jobs, according to thisismoney.co.uk. The majority will be at six new hotels due to be opened in Maidenhead, Berkshire, Chichester and Horsham in West Sussex, London, Paignton, Devon, and Lancaster. The jobs include hotel managers, receptionists, housekeepers and bar staff. The remaining 50 jobs are management roles across the UK and at the head office in Thame, Oxfordshire.
Admin: United Utilities, a water company, is to create 244 jobs in the north-west as it brings its call-centre operations in-house from the Philippines. The company said the move would create 181 jobs at its Lingley Mere headquarters in Warrington, Cheshire, with a further 63 at its call centre in Whitehaven, Cumbria, according to the Manchester Evening News. The jobs – 142 full-time and 102 part-time – are a mixture of administrative and telephone roles in the billing and payments departments. Recruitment starts later this month.
Childcare: Plans to turn a disused church into a day nursery that will lead to more than 20 new jobs in Craig-y-Don, north Wales. The project is an expansion for Springfield Day Nursery. The company says the project will also create three additional jobs in its Colwyn Bay headquarters. It is hoped the nursery will open for business in March next year, according to North Wales Weekly News.
