New Glory A-League ownership deal eases player fears

Perth Glory coach Alen Stajcic says the recent appointment of new owners to the A-League club will eliminate the fear of the unknown for his players.

Glory had been in limbo since Tony Sage handed back the club's A-League licence in July amidst ongoing financial woes.

But Perth will enter the season as a stable entity following this week's announcement that Melbourne-based property tycoon Robert Brij and John Nekic had bought the club.

The Primeland Group-led consortium will officially sign the final paperwork next month.

"Stability is the key," Stajcic told reporters ahead of Sunday's season opener against Newcastle in Perth.

"Fear of the unknown is probably one of the biggest fears we can have as humans.

"So just knowing we've got good owners and stable owners and people who want to invest in the club and the region is really important.

"I'm sure that will trickle down through the playing rosters of both the men's and women's teams as the year goes ahead."

Stajcic was appointed coach in August following the surprise decision of Ruben Zadkovich to step away at the end of last season.

Glory will also unveil a new leadership team this season, with star striker Adam Taggart and English defender Mark Beevers named joint captains.

Last season's skipper Mustafa Amini will miss the early part of the campaign while he recovers from a back injury.

Glory finished ninth last season and haven't reached the finals in the past three years.

Stajcic has his sights set on returning Perth to the top of the league - much like their glory days in the now-defunct NSL.

The former Matildas and Mariners coach said there was no reason Perth couldn't make an instant impact this season.

"Every club is starting from scratch. What we have learned is that anyone can move anywhere quickly," he said.

"Teams can move from bottom to top quickly, and vice verse. Last year's results are irrelevant.

"I think (this team) is a team that will be united and one that will fight for the club and for the city.

"People want to see the heart and spirit of the group, and that's one thing I can 100 per cent guarantee."

Sunday's fixture at HBF Park is a double header, with the Glory women to take on Newcastle before the men's game.

Perth started their A-League Women campaign with a 2-0 victory over Western United last week.
