A new dog grooming salon will soon be on its way to Prestwick.
Plans for the new business have been approved by South Ayrshire Council’s Planning Department.
The site is next to a residential property in Weston Place and the venue for the business will be on the site of a former garage.
The applicant, Louise Gilmour, wanted to demolish an existing garage to make way for the dog grooming studio.
In her supporting statement she said: “Planning permission has been granted in a previous application to convert the existing garage to a dog grooming salon.
“Unfortunately, when the contractor was on site to begin the work, it was discovered it was unsafe to carry out the work due to the stability of the existing garage structure.
"The only option remaining is to take down the existing garage, and to build a new structure.”
Ms Gilmour describes herself as a “qualified dog groomer” offering “all aspects” of dog grooming services from nail clipping, bath and blow dry to full grooms.
“I offer a one-to-one service so only one dog per appointment and I will operate on an appointment only basis,” she revealed.
The hours of operation will be from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday.
Ms Gilmour continued: “Having done research from potential clients in the area, it’s clear most clients will walk their dog to and from their appointments, as it’s conveniently located close to clients’ homes.
“However, for road safety and to ensure there are no clients’ cars parked on the street, an additional parking space will be provided, meaning there are two spaces available at all times as we do not own a car.”
The building will be soundproofed and insulated resulting in “no noise” being heard from outside the building.
Ms Gilmour adds: “There are other dog groomers with a similar set up in South Ayrshire, however, there is no-one close by, so this will be a highly sought-after convenient service to locals without having to travel and navigate their dogs through busy roads and streets.”
In their report, council planners said: “The majority of the comments received support a dog grooming business at the locale.”
