New COVID-safe guidelines for NSW schools

Mark Scott says NSW parents and carers can attend graduation and presentation days from November 12. (AAP)

Parents and carers will be allowed to attend end-of-year events in NSW public schools under new COVID-safe guidelines.

NSW education secretary Mark Scott says parents and carers will be able to attend graduation and presentation days from November 12, provided they maintain physical distancing.

Students may now also attend school excursions to the ACT.

"Carefully allowing additional activities to take place at schools will give our communities a welcome return to some normality in what has been a long and challenging year," Mr Scott said in a statement on Thursday.

"Schools across the state have shown outstanding resilience and flexibility in adapting to the many changes that have taken place this year and they should be applauded for the critical part they have played in the response to the pandemic."

Mr Scott said the safety and wellbeing of students and staff remained the priority as the end of the school year approached.

He said schools must continue to follow NSW Health advice by maintaining regular hand washing and sanitising, as well as having people stay home and get tested if any COVID-19 symptoms presented.
