A new comic book telling the life story of Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was released by TidalWave Comics on May 18, 2022. Titled 'Political Power: Volodymyr Zelenskyy', the graphic novel is part of a series on political figures and politicians.
The 22-page comic book tells Zelenskyy's extraordinary story-- from being a comedian to a war-time leader now. It is noted that as an actor Zelenskyy earlier played the role of a president in a fictional show titled 'Servant of the People'. The show was much-loved by the audience; later he won the Ukrainian election and came to power in the year 2019. Back then, he promised to end a war with Moscow-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine. He had no political experience when he took office as the country’s sixth president,' reports Reuters.
'Political Power: Volodymyr Zelenskyy' is written by Michael L. Frizell and illustrated by Pablo Martinena.
Talking about the book, writer Frizell said, according to TidalWave Comics, “This was a challenging script to write. The publisher and I wanted to focus on the man beyond the media’s current focus – Ukraine’s war with Russia and Zelenskyy’s battle of wills with Putin. Who is he? What makes him tick? Why is he the right leader for Ukraine at this moment? Those are the things I was curious about when I started the research.”
Meanwhile, illustrator Pablo Martinena has previously drawn biographies about famous personalities like David Beckham, Nelson Mandela and others.
Sharing his views on the new comic book about Zelenskiy's life, publisher Darren G. Davis said in a statement, “This book means a lot to me because of my Ukrainian heritage. Both sets of my grandparents immigrated from Ukraine."
A part of the comic book's sale will be donated by the publisher to the International Red Cross in Ukraine's support. "I wanted to use this medium to not only tell a story but to somehow donate to the cause at the same time...It does not hurt that Volodymyr Zelenskyy has a fascinating story.”
It's noted that Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The ongoing Russia-Ukraine war will soon complete three months.
