Nov. 16--The Revival, Hyde Park's newest comedy venue located on the same corner that once housed the Compass Players, has announced its inaugural lineup of shows through December.
The venue officially opens on Nov. 20 with "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" writer Brian McCann's improv-based "Talk. Show."
Highlights in the programming, which generally follow a weekly schedule, include Prose and Flows, an open-mic night hosted by Mr. Greenweedz Wednesday evenings and "The Cricket," a spoof of live-lit shows like "The Moth," playing on Thursdays. The longtime Asian-American Chicago group Stir Friday Night performs a combination of sketch, improv and stand-up on Friday nights. Improv Genius follows, with weekly special guests 3peat, Tim Mason and more to be announced. Saturdays include The Revival Hour, an hour of comedy with the house ensemble, along with Double Feature, a two-part show led by TJ Jagodowski and Billy Bungeroth complete with a second-act improvised musical. The Green Room, a stand-up and music showcase hosted by Dave Helem and Felonius Munk, closes out the night. The Lincoln Lodge, a stand-up showcase now in its 16th year, runs Sundays.
The venue will also present one-night-only events with various performers, screenings of classic comedies, live music and Bears games on the big screen every Sunday afternoon.
