New Cardinals offense a dud in first half vs. Lions

The Arizona Cardinals were expected to bring a new, innovative offense that put up points in bunches. Through one half of play in 2019, that has not been the case.

The Cardinals trailed the Detroit Lions 17-3 at halftime and scored their first points on a 20-yard field goal with just more than a minute left in the half.

While they played with tempo and lined up with mostly three and four receivers, the production was not there.

They ran 29 offensive plays, scored three points and managed only 58 total yards.

Quarterback Kyler Murray completed 6-of-16 passes for 41 yards and an interception. He was sacked three times. He ran the ball once for six yards.

They did show variety in their formations and substitutions. They had a couple of plays with five wide receivers on the field. They had one play with no receivers on the field, two tight ends and two eligible linemen on the field.

It is early but this non-vanilla version of the offense still hasn’t done anything. The Cardinals did not score a touchdown with the starting offense on the field. They still haven’t.
