New Belfast takeaway goes viral with epic burgers

People can't seem to get enough of North Belfast newest takeaway Meat and Crust.

The takeaway on the Antrim Road has had customers travel from Dublin and beyond to get their hands on one of their in-demand burger boxes.

Having only opened a couple of months ago, the owners, CJ and Conor, say they'll sell hundreds of burgers each weekend.

Conor told Belfast Live: "Me and CJ had a few ideas and wanted the burger place to be different. Everyone told us it wouldn't work on the Antrim Road, but here we are. They said our '999 burger' at £10 wouldn't sell. It's massive. In the first week we sold about 500 - it's five different meats.

"You've got your beef, chicken fillet, pulled pork, beef brisket, double bacon, cheese, salad and three different sauces. It is a monster but people love it. Loads of people just get it without the chips, because you really couldn't eat more.

"Our boxes are the most popular though for us. We do a buffalo burger box, with the wings, burger, chips and a drink for £10. Last week we did a box which also had a Taboo doughnut in it and it did really take off.

"People are seeing our posts on social media, which are doing well, and travelling to us. We've had people come from Dublin which is crazy. The other week a guy travelled from Newry for two chips."

Meat and Crust's TikTok's have caught global attention, with followers from America commenting and sharing their videos of the burgers being made from scratch and packed into the branded boxes.

Conor says social media has really helped them during their first few weeks of trade.

He added: "I have 10,000 leaflets under that counter and haven't had to deliver one. People have been supportive through social media.

"At the minute we are open Tuesday to Sunday and our weekends are crazy. If you had driven past on Friday, Saturday or Sunday last week, our door was closed. The shutters were down from 6pm. We aren't closed, we are trying to keep people away because it's so hectic!

"There's nowhere else on the road that does what we do. Everything is made fresh and done by order, so it may take a bit longer but it will be worth it.

"We took a big risk and it has been stressful, really stressful. But we are now thinking of the future, what more we can do. We're already looking at Christmas boxes.

"The support has been unbelievable. I wouldn't travel two hours for a burger, anywhere. So I think foe that aspect we are just really appreciative."
