Neuroradiologist gets global honour

Sirintara: First Thai recipient

Thai neurovascular interventionist Prof Dr Sirintara Singhara Na Ayudhaya was appointed an Honorary President of the World Federation of Neuroradiological Societies (WFNRS) on Monday.

Alongside her work as a neuroradiologist at Ramathibodi Hospital, Prof Dr Sirintara has long devoted herself to medical education and supporting interdisciplinary studies for community advancement.

Prof Dr Sirintara is the first Thai neuroradiologist to be awarded the honorary position, and her official appointment will take place at this year's May 13 to 16 Symposium Neuroradiologicum (SNR) in New York.

The symposium is held every four years and has approximately 2,000 participants worldwide.

When asked how she felt after being notified of the honour, Prof Dr Sirintara said that she felt very proud to be the first Thai to hold the prestigious position, and added that she hoped it would help her promote cooperation among international neuroradiological and diagnostic radiological associations, especially in Southeast Asia.

From 1999 to 2008, Prof Dr Sirintara was a co-director, and from 2008 to the present a director, of the Pierre Lajuanias Neurovascular Educational course in Thailand (PLANET), a joint master's programme between the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Tufts University in Massachusetts, United States, and University of Toronto, Canada. The programme accommodates more than 600 graduates from 50 countries worldwide.

She has been a senior member of Asian-Australasian Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (AAFITN) since 2000 and also served as president from 2010 to 2012.

This latest position was bestowed upon Prof Dr Sirintara to recognise her long-standing devotion to neuroradiology studies.
