NEW YORK _ The Nets and Grizzlies rode a wave of momentum into Barclays Center on Monday night, relatively speaking. These two young, struggling teams had shed losing streaks Saturday _ a three-game skid for Brooklyn and a staggering 19-game skid for Memphis.
So both were in search of consecutive wins for the first time since January.
It was the Nets who emerged with their fifth two-game win streak of the season, holding on to beat the Grizzlies, 118-115, and handing them their 15th straight road loss.
Caris LeVert and Allen Crabbe paced the Nets (23-48) with 22 points apiece. DeMarre Carroll added 18 points and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Andrew Harrison led Memphis (19-51) with 19 points and Wayne Selden Jr scored 17.
The Nets trailed 101-100, but then they made their move with a 9-0 burst. Jarrett Allen made his move down low for a layup. Crabbe nailed a 3. Allen canned two free throws. And LeVert converted on a fast-break layup for a 109-101 lead with 4:07 remaining.
The Grizzlies cut it to four at 117-113 on a 3 by Selden with 25.9 seconds to go. The Nets then made it more interesting by committing a turnover. JaMychal Green scored inside to cut it to two with 12.6 seconds on the clock. Spencer Dinwiddie went 1-for-2 from the line a second later. Harrison's potential game-tying 3 came up short at the buzzer.
