Netflix says we’ve been pronouncing Emily in Paris wrong - but fans spot blunder

Netflix has dropped an Emily in Paris bombshell - we've been pronouncing the name of the show wrong.

The first series follows Lily Collins as Emily Cooper, an optimistic young woman sent to her company's office in Paris to provide an 'American perspective' for the marketing team.

The comedy was met with overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics who thought the show was clichéd.

However, it proved a hit among many who called it their "guilty pleasure".

Shortly after it was announced the show would be back with season two, Netflix revealed that we've been pronouncing the title wrong this entire time - but fans aren't convinced.

The Netflix Twitter account shared a message which read: "Friendly reminder Emily in Paris is supposed to be pronounced with a French accent so 'Emily' and 'Paris' rhyme."

Basically, it's pronounced "Emily in Par-ee" - which doesn't make much sense since the first part of the title is in English and the second half is in French.

Unsurprisingly, fans were quick to point out the absurdity of it all on Twitter.

One fan said: "I’m sorry... what???", which prompted Netflix to respond: "I said what I said."

Another said: "Then spell the title 'Emily à Paris', ffs. If you are speaking English, the city is PAR-is. If you are speaking French it's par-EE.

"Should I refer to Germany as 'Allemange'? No. And why is that? Because I'm speaking English."

A third commented: "It is not rhyming. Paris is pronounced 'Par-ee' in French not 'Pary'. It does not rhyme."

Someone else said: "Then it should be Emily à Paris."

But one other fan thought Netflix had a point, exclaiming: "This changes everything!"
