Netflix is developing a film about Prince Andrew’s infamous “Newsnight” interview, and the streaming service has lined up an all-star cast for the upcoming feature.

Based on a memoir by former “Newsnight” producer Sam McAlister, “Scoop” will star Rufus Sewell, Gillian Anderson, Keeley Hawes, and Billie Piper, per Netflix’s Tudum blog.

Sewell (“The Man in the High Castle”) will play Prince Andrew. Anderson (“The Crown”) will play Emily Maitlis, the “Newsnight” presenter who interviewed the prince.

Meanwhile, Hawes (“Bodyguard”) will play Amanda Thirsk, Prince Andrew’s former private secretary. And Piper (“I Hate Suzie”) will play Sam McAlister, the ex-“Newsnight” booker whose memoir, “Scoops: The BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews from Prince Andrew to Steven Seagal,” came out last year.

In his 2019 interview on “Newsnight,” Prince Andrew spoke publicly for the first time about the accusations from Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who alleged that convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein forced her to perform sex acts with Prince Andrew and other men, according to CNN.

Prince Andrew, who had repeatedly denied Roberts Giuffre’s claims through Buckingham Palace statements, told Maitlis he took daughter Beatrice to a party the night he allegedly had sex with his accuser. He also said he stayed at Epstein’s house because it was “convenient” and “honorable.”

When Maitlis asked Prince Andrew if he had regret or guilt about his friendship with Epstein, the royal replied that it was a “wrong decision to go and see him in 2010.”

The interview sparked intense backlash for Prince Andrew, with BBC royal correspondent Jonny Dymond saying it is “universally seen as a mistake.” After the sit-down aired on “Newsnight,” Royal Central editor Charlie Proctor tweeted that the interview was “a plane crashing into an oil tanker, causing a tsunami, triggering a nuclear explosion level bad.” Later that November, Prince Andrew announced he was stepping back from royal duties.

According to Netflix, “Scoop” will give viewers “the inside track on the women that broke through the Buckingham Palace establishment to secure the scoop of the decade that led to the catastrophic fall from grace of the queen’s ‘favorite son,’” from “navigating Palace vetoes, to breaking through to Prince Andrew’s inner circle, the high-stakes negotiations, and intensity of rehearsal — to the jaw-dropping interview itself.”

Emmy-winning director Philip Martin will helm the movie. “I want to put the audience inside the breathtaking sequence of events that led to the interview with Prince Andrew — to tell a story about a search for answers, in a world of speculation and varying recollections,” Martin told Netflix. “It’s a film about power, privilege, and differing perspectives, and how — whether in glittering palaces or high-tech newsrooms — we judge what’s true.”
