Netflix 'closing in on Six Nations deal' as they eye F1 Drive to Survive-esque series

Netflix are reportedly 'closing in' on a deal to produce a behind the scenes documentary of the Six Nations, similar to Formula 1' s 'Drive to Survive'. The four-season 'Drive to Survive' production has proven to be a huge hit with sports fans on Netflix.

As a result, it has been credited in being a key component of increasing interest in the sport in the United States. And now - according to the Daily Mail - Netflix are looking to produce something similar in the world of rugby union.

According to the report Mercedes boss Toto Wolff and driver George Russell have been in discussions with rugby players, coaches and chief executives to discuss the success a Netflix series has had on their sport.

CVC Capital Partners - who bought a 14.3 percent stake of the Six Nations worth £365 million in 2021 - are said to be a driving force behind the idea, having previously been involved with F1.

Like Drive to Survive, one of the key motivators in the idea is to grow the sport not just across Europe but all around the world.

All six chief executives of the tournament's nations are said to have all pledged their backing behind the series, and to allow the cameras into their 2023 camps. This will no doubt prove to be exciting news for British rugby fans in particular.

This comes after both England and Wales recently appointed new coaches following a poor 2022 season. England saw Eddie Jones depart his role earlier this month after seven years at the helm.

As a result, Steve Borthwick is set to be the man to replace Jones and take over the England team ahead of next year's Six Nations. Wales meanwhile also relieved their coach of his duties, after Wayne Pivac was sacked earlier this month.

They will have a familiar face in and around their camp, after Pivac's predecessor Warren Gatland was named his successor, taking the Wales job for a second time following his initial departure in 2019.
