Nemanja Matic puts Manchester United draw vs Southampton into perspective

Nemanja Matic has urged Manchester United to keep their heads up and reiterated that Champions League qualification remains in their hands following a draw with Southampton.

United went into Monday night's clash with Ralph Hasenhuttl's side knowing a victory would lift them up to third in the Premier League ahead of both Chelsea and Leicester.

However, United remain in fifth with three matches of the campaign left after a late strike from Michael Obafemi secured a deserved point for Southampton.

The mood was deflated around Old Trafford following the late equalising goal but Matic was quick to point out that United will qualify for the Champions League if they win their remaining Premier League matches.

"It is very frustrating for us, we had some chances to kill the game, but we didn’t use that,” he told MUTV.

“I don’t think that we allowed them to create some good chances. We have to keep our head up, three games to go on Thursday so if we win our last three games we are in Champions League so we have to stay positive and keep working like we did. It is in our hands."

"Three month ago it was not in our hands. Everything we had to play and wait for Chelsea and Leicester to drop points which they did. Now we are one point to Chelsea and it is in our hands.

"Game by game we think about Crystal Palace then if we do our job there like we normally are doing. I am not afraid that we won’t play Champions League next season."
