Neil Young – the new face of Supreme

Neil Young for Supreme

In this week’s grey pound news, cult skate-wear label Supreme has announced the new face of its campaign: Neil Young. Cool old people in adverts have become quite the trend for SS15, what with Joan Didion and Joni Mitchell causing an online fracas after appearing in the Céline and Saint Laurent campaigns respectively, so it might not seem that groundbreaking for a label such as Supreme, known for its guerrilla campaigns and alternative faces (think Kermit the Frog and Kate Moss), to feature the Canadian musician. Except that Young, 69, appears to have performed a complete volte-face on consumerism. Fans may remember his fairly explicit reaction to celebrities fronting adverts in the song This Note’s For You: “Ain’t singin’ for Pepsi/ Ain’t singin’ for Coke.” Still, Neil, there comes a time when you settle down and realise Supreme’s actually pretty cool.
