Neil Lennon slams misfiring Celtic stars as he opens exit door to unhappy players

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has slammed his players for crashing out of the Champions League and insists players are free to leave the club if they wish to.

The Hoops suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Ferencvaros and dropped down into the Europa League.

The Hungarians took an early lead, but Celtic looked to have steadied the ship as Ryan Christie levelled just after the break.

But as the game was heading for extra time, Ferencvaros snatched a late winner to end the Hoops' Champions League dream for another season.

And Lennon was livid with his side for countless missed opportunities and their defensive mistakes.

And his message to his players was clear.

He told BBC Sportsound: "The players have to be better, get your attitude right, get your mentality right.

"Some of you don't want to be here? Leave.

"I just want the players who want to be here."

Asked if there were some players who wanted out, he replied: "Ehm, in some cases."

Lennon admitted he needs reinforcements in the transfer window, but Celtic should have had more than enough to see off Ferencvaros even without Odsonne Edouard, who was ruled out with a thigh injury.

He added: "I think we need to freshen it up anyway, we need to freshen the squad up.

"What I've got, on the bench, we should have had more than enough to win tonight.

"It should have been done and dusted, with or without Odsonne."
