Neil Lennon's Celtic press conference in full as he expresses 'disappointment' at Leigh Griffiths' discipline

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has said there was no malice in Leigh Griffiths' alleged stamp on Hamilton defender Sam Woods, but admits he is 'disappointed' with the striker's discipline in the aftermath of the incident.

Griffiths appeared to put his foot down on the midriff of the centre-back as the two found themselves entangled early in the first half as the Hoops trailed 1-0.

This led to fury from the home side, with Griffiths getting into a shoving match with Alex Gogic, before a red card to Accies' Jamie Hamilton further underlined the tensions.

Lennon's men, with a man advantage, came from behind to win the game 4-1, but all the post-match headlines focused around the referee's decision not to send off Griffiths - many feeling the striker should have walked.

Lennon, however, disagrees on that front. He says he was disappointed with the player's actions in the aftermath, but feels the incident itself was innocuous.

"I saw it and there was no malice in it," Lennon said. "What disappointed me was him pushing the player after it.

"We're huge on discipline and tram discipline so I had a quiet word with him about it.

"In terms of the stamp, there was no malice or intent in that at all so I would be bewildered if anything came from it.

"His leg was trapped and he was trying to get up, and I'm not sure how much contact he even made with the player.

"I've not seen any replays but I know from where I was, from a footballing point of view, it's like he's trying to get up rather than lift his leg and put it down on the player.

Celtic will take on Motherwell on Wednesday, looking to build on their snowballing momentum with another win over Stephen Robinson's men.

Griffiths will be available for that one after he was cleared of any retrospective action by the SFA earlier on Tuesday, and Lennon has confirmed that he will have both Mohamed Elyounoussi and Jozo Simunovic fit and available once again.

"We're just looking at Johnny Hayes, he's got a bit of a stiff calf so he'll be monitored," said Lennon when asked for a fitness update.

"Apart from that everyone else is OK. Elyounoussi and Simunovic are back in the squad.
