Neil Lennon's Celtic press conference in full as boss admits European Super League hope

Neil Lennon hopes Celtic would fit the criteria for a European Super League spot - but reckons such a major shake-up remains a distant possibility.

Manchester United and Liverpool have led talks over creating a new competition - possibly as soon as 2022 - involving Europe's elite clubs.

Celtic were the first British side to win the European Cup in 1967 and remain one of the continent's most prestigious names.

But while he hopes such history would count for something, the Parkhead boss insists it's all conjecture at ths stage.

Lennon said: "It's an interesting concept. I know this story emerged yesterday.

"You'd hope, in some way, we'd fit the criteria if it was to be a part of that.

"But I think we're a long way off even considering that at the minute."

The manager is preparing his side for a Europa League group stage opener against AC Milan on Thursday night.

Celtic are looking to bounce back quickly from their weekend derby defeat to Rangers.
