Neil Lennon 'open' to Hibs return as former Celtic boss emerges as next manager candidate

Neil Lennon is reportedly among the contenders to take over at Hibs as the club step up their search for Jack Ross' successor.

Lennon has been out of work since leaving Celtic in February in the midst of the disastrous title defence as Rangers romped to Premiership success.

Before his second spell in the Parkhead dugout the Northern Irishman spent two-and-a-half years at Easter Road.

During his time at Hibs the club secured promotion from Championship in 2017 and qualification for European football the following year.

However, in 2019 he left the role n controversial fashion following a club suspension. The club would later state the exit was "by mutual consent."

Since Lennon 's time at the club, owners Ron Gordon has taken the helm at the club and The Mail on Sunday claim the American is considering bringing back the the former boss.

With the Premier Sports Cup showdown against Celtic on the horizon, Lennon is reportedly "open" to talks over a return to Leith.

David Gray took the reins against St Mirren on Saturday following Jack Ross ’ sacking on Thursday.

But Record Sport understands the 2016 Scottish Cup Final hero won’t be putting himself forward for the job permanently as he feels it’s not the right time.
