Neighbours share their concern as police and forensic officers called to Newark street

Concerned neighbours have told of their shock after a residential street was cordoned off by officers on Wednesday morning (January 12).

It comes as police and forensics were spotted at the scene and a section of William Street, where it meets Barnbygate, in Newark was cordoned off.

Neighbours have raised concerns over the incident with carer Linda Goldsbough saying: "There is a lot of trouble going off around here - and it isn't right.

The resident, who has lived in the area for 16 years, added: "There is a lot of vulnerable and elderly.

"It is getting worse - we never used to have trouble before."

Glen Lewis, a concerned resident who lives in the area, 50, added: "I was up watching TV at around 1am this morning when I heard something.

"I saw someone looking around with a flash light last night at about 4am in the morning and I thought it was someone looking in cars and it turned out it was a police officer."

A resident on the street who does not want to be named added: "They [police] have been here since 7am this morning as I was taking my cat to the vet.

"I do not know what has happened - this is a fairly accessible road."

Officers left the scene and normal traffic resumed shortly after 11am on Wednesday (January 11).

It is understood officers were called to a medical emergency.
