Neighbours horrified after body of missing man discovered on roof of home

A local community have been left horrified after the body of a man was discovered on the roof of a house in Leeds.

Gerard Colgan, 32, was reported missing by friends on Friday after they grew concerned that they had not seen him since October 2.

His brother Rory had issued an appeal on Facebook saying: "My brothers (sic) not been seen for a few days and were all a little concerned about his wellbeing."

West Yorkshire Police said they found the body on the roof of a property in Chapeltown and believe it belongs to the man missing from the address.

While formal identification has not taken place, police say they believe the remains to be Gerard.

They also confirmed there to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Emergency services closed roads in the area on Sunday afternoon to recover the body from a three-storey terraced house.

Videos and images shared via the community reporting platform YappApp appear to show a worker opening a skylight and looking at the body underneath a yellow blanket.

A post on Facebook reads: "Emergency services were at the scene, closing numerous roads in the #Chapeltown area of the city after a body was discovered on the roof of a three-story residential property.

"The incident saw large number of emergency services arrive around 3:30 pm [Sunday] afternoon to the incident in Harehills Avenue.

"Road closures were in place at the junction of #Harehills Avenue, and Spencer place."

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police told The Mirror: "The body of a man found on the roof of a house in Leeds yesterday is believed to be a man reported missing from the address.

"Gerard Colgan, aged 32, was reported missing from the address in Harehills Avenue, Chapeltown, on Friday.

"At 2.40pm on Sunday, the body was located on the roof. While formal identification is yet to be completed, it is believed to be Mr Colgan and his family has been informed.
