Neighbours fans react as Australian soap drops trailer for final episode

Neighbours fans have been left in tears as the Aussie soap has released the 'emotional' trailer for its final episode - which is set to air later this week. It was confirmed back in March that Neighbours would be ending after 37 years on our screens and 8903 episodes, leaving viewers devastated.

Despite valiant efforts from the show's fans to help save the soap, with more than 60,000 people signing a petition in a bid to stop it being axed, Channel 5 confirmed the air date for programme's final episode earlier this month. The antepenultimate episode will be broadcast in the usual time slots of 1:45pm and 6pm on Friday, July 29 with a final double episode special airing in the prime time slot of 9pm on the same evening.

Since the announcement that the soap opera, which first aired in 1985, would be ceasing production, it has been promised that the long-running drama would end on an 'incredible high'. Back in May, cast member Alan Fletcher, who plays Dr Karl Kennedy, posted a video on social media holding the final script and teased that the end would be "sensational".

So far, it has been revealed that a number of much-loved characters and famous faces will be making a return to Ramsay Street including Margot Robbie, Delta Goodrem and Jesse Spencer - just to name a few. Power couple Scott (Jason Donovan) and Charlene (Kylie Minogue) will also be making a return to Erinsborough - their wedding back in the 1980s attracted almost 20 million UK viewers.

Today a sneak peek of what is sure to be an emotional watch has been teased with fans. The Neighbours official social media accounts shared a trailer on Monday morning with the caption: "It certainly feels like the end of an era... Neighbours: The Finale | Friday at 9pm on @channel5_tv #CelebratingNeighbours". Before later adding in a tweet: "can someone pass us the tissues?".

Soap fans were quick to take to Twitter to share their thoughts on the trailer, with many preparing to be left upset at the show's finale. Angie tweeted: "Gutted it's ending. great seeing old characters are fantastic but obviously all happening at the once story lines are so rushed. Understandably trying to wrap it up in style."

Claire Nasey added: "Oh dear I'm weeping already , gawd help me come Friday." whilst Hazel Evans tweeted: "This is heartbreaking.." and Josie said: "It’s gonna be emotional."

Tracey Wearn posted: "Oh my....I'm welling up already... Seriously can't believe this is coming to an end....going to miss you all sooooo much." Jax added: "I'm not ready to say goodbye [crying emoji]" and Mikey Cole tweeted: "The end is nigh & im not ready.. I’ve grown up with @neighbours and it ends this week, it’s going to be a sad day on Thursday but I’m glad it’s going out with a bang & happy that many of the stars are back to say goodbye. #CelebratingNeighbours."

"End of an era @neighbours," Michele Daeche said: "So many shared memories watching with family, the only soap I ever watched…it had light, storylines that didn’t frustratingly go on for weeks, was filled with good humour & had some of the most attractive people ever seen on our tv screens." Harkirat added: "A bittersweet week ahead. There are going to be tears... lots of them!".

The Neighbours finale will air on Friday, July 29 from 9pm on Channel 5.
