Neighbour blocks rival's car in with scaffolding as parking row erupts

A petty row over a parking space took a bizarre turn when one neighbour escalated the dispute by blocking in his rival's car with scaffolding.

The dispute even saw the police called when the owner of a blue VW Passat found his vehicle completely trapped in the makeshift construction of metal poles.

A series of huge scaffolding poles had been tightly screwed in place to imprison the estate car and stop it from being driven away.

A trailer next to the parking space on an estate in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, had also been cemented into the ground beside the vehicle before the cage was built, police said.

Inspector Darren Taylor of Mid Sussex Police was called to the scene of the escalating neighbourly conflict and was shocked at what he found.

A police inspector said he had never dealt with an incident like it before (SWNS)

He said an investigation is ongoing into if any crimes had been committed after the trapped car was reported to police.

Tweeting pictures of the bizarre incident, Inspector Darren Taylor said he had not seen anything like it in more than 20 years on the force.

He wrote: "Over 20 years of policing, I have dealt with many neighbour disputes and parking issues.

"But nothing like this one which the team are dealing with at the moment in Haywards Heath.

"Need to speak to the individual who thinks this is acceptable to do this to someone else's vehicle."

Those involved are being "spoken to" by officers about the dispute, which is said to be over a parking space, Inspector Taylor said.

He added: “I know this job throws up many different things but I have never seen anything like it before.

“My team are looking into what offences if any need to be investigated.”
