Streets just outside of London’s West End are set for a multi-million-pound overhaul amid fears that the capital's less famous areas are "looking tired".
Westminster council is concerned some of its roads have become neglected and wants to see bars, restaurants, shops and arts venues upgraded.
Paddington and Bayswater are first in line for the first £10million of improvements, with Edgware Road, Praed Street, Queensway, and Westbourne Grove the main streets being targeted for work.
Westminster Council said it wants to "ensure all residents benefit from a high street with a good range of retail, bars, and other attractions".
Ideas under discussion also include creating more parks, markets and leisure facilities.
Councillor Geoff Barraclough, cabinet member for planning and economic development, said: “Everyone supports the West End as an engine of the UK economy, but we need to ensure all parts of our City can share in the post-pandemic revival of London’s economy.
“The reality is that some shopping parades in Westminster look tired, have anti-social behaviour challenges and suffer from a general lack of facilities.
“Our consultation is all about asking local people: what do you want from your high street? Does it need a gallery, different shops, somewhere green to enjoy and the feeling the area is safe to enjoy? What would make a stronger community where you live?”
Public consultations on the improvements began this week and will continue until August 18.
