Neale accepts fine for brush with umpire

Brisbane midfielder Lachie Neale has been fined for making contact with an AFL umpire. (AAP)

Star Brisbane midfielder Lachie Neale has accepted a $1500 fine for his brush with the umpire during last week's 18-point AFL win over Carlton.

Neale briefly grabbed the arm of umpire Matthew Nicholls to let his displeasure be known after being left with a gash on his face from an accidental knee.

After the game, Neale said he was merely letting the umpire know that he needed to get off the ground due to the blood rule.

There were some calls for Neale to be suspended given the sanctity of protecting umpires from any physical touch but match review officer Michael Christian opted for a fine.

Neale, who is set to miss a large chunk of the season with an ankle injury, accepted the fine on Tuesday.

Carlton veteran Levi Casboult is fighting his charge of kneeing Brisbane's Ryan Lester.

Casboult, who could have accepted a $2000 fine with an early guilty plea, now risks copping a $3000 fine if he is unsuccessful in clearing his name.

St Kilda's Daniel McKenzie has accepted a one-match sanction for engaging in rough conduct against Port Adelaide's Ollie Wines, while North Melbourne's Jy Simpkin accepted a $1500 fine for striking Fremantle's Ethan Hughes.
