Neal Ardley thrilled with how his Notts County players have handled the pressure

Notts County boss Neal Ardley praised his side for how they handled the pressure in their 2-0 win over Grimsby as they took their survival fight to the final day of the season.

On a day when a win was imperative, the Magpies sealed victory as goals from Craig Mackail-Smith and Pierce Bird to lift the Magpies off the bottom of the table.

With Yeovil relegated, the Magpies now need to win at Swindon next week and hope that Cambridge can beat Macclesfield if they are to survive the drop.

It is going to be another huge test of Notts’ ability to handle the intensity of the occasion and Ardley was delighted at how they had done so against the Mariners.

“We prepared really well and we had dealt with the elephant in the room so we could get the boys ready what was going to come,” he said.

“I thought they handled the pressure brilliantly and it was a really accomplished performance.

“That’s all we can control and next week we have got to look and do the same.

“We had to win the game and we’ve done it.
