NDA govt selling national assets to select few, says former Union minister P Chidambaram

PANAJI: The country’s public assets which have been built over 70 years are being sold off to a select few without any consultation or discussion in Parliament, said former Union minister and Rajya Sabha member of parliament, P Chidambaram. He urged the youth of the country to oppose the “daylight robbery” that the NDA-led government is implementing through the national monetisation pipeline.

“Whatever has been created by the governments of the country in the last 70 years is being given in the hands of a select few. People should be aware of this menace and oppose it,” he said, adding that there was no consultation on this policy.

“There was no debate in Parliament. The government would never allow discussion on the issue,” said Chidambaram.

He was speaking at the two-day national executive meeting of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) which began on Sunday with national office-bearers and youth Congress presidents of different states in attendance. The meeting under the leadership of the national in-charge of IYC and All India Congress Committee (AICC) joint secretary Krishna Allavaru and national president Srinivas B V, began on Sunday.

On this occasion, all national office-bearers and state presidents of Youth Congress from across the country were present. State Congress president Girish Chodankar, leader of opposition Digambar Kamat and working president Aleixo Sequeira were also present.
