Navi Mumbai: 150 km of slippery footpaths to be bleached by NMMC

NAVI MUMBAI: Nearly 150 kms of city footpaths are to get a coat of bleaching powder in order to make them less slippery during the ongoing rainy spell.

Activist Anarjit Chauhan said: "Several citizens have complained of slippery pavements due to the accumulation of green moss on them during rains. A woman had fallen on one such slippery footpath in Nerul sector 19. Hence, citizens have demanded that bleaching powder be used in order to make them less slippery."

Navi Mumbai Congress spokesperson, Vaibhav Sawant, said: "In the Koparkhairane ward, none of the footpaths have been applied with bleach, so incidents of people slipping here are also there. NMMC should think of such rain related issues well in advance."

The executive engineer R Sonavane said that they are going to use bleaching powder on footpaths once the rains reduce a bit.

There are reportedly 96 contractors finalized in all the eight wards to apply bleach on a total 150 km length of various city pavements."

Vashi based activist Manoj Mane said: "I myself was about to slip on a footpath in sector 1, but luckily managed to balance to prevent falling down. This can result in a serious injury."
