Russia’s latest attack on Ukraine has left eight people injured, including a three-year-old child, said authorities in Kyiv.

The attack took place just after midnight on Monday and saw Poland scramble jets in response to the blitz.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said via Telegram that four of those injured have been hospitalised, with one in serious condition.

The injured were all residents in an apartment building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district on the left bank of the Dnipro River, according to the city mayor Vitali Klitschko.

The city and most of Ukraine was under air raid alerts for several hours following warnings of Russian missile and drone attacks.

Nato member Poland was forced to scramble jets in response to the alerts in order to secure the Polish airspace.

As reported by the Sun, the Polish Ministry of Defence said jets took off as a precautionary measure.

The ministry said: “Polish and allied aircraft on standby were scrambled and ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems were placed on the highest level of combat readiness.”

The Gerbera Drone is designed to deceive air defence systems, rather than to cause explosions.

A search is now underway to find the drone which is expected to have crash landed in Lithuania.

The Ukrainian city of Kropyvnytskyi also came under attack, according to regional Governor Andriy Raikovych.

Emergency services are now attending to the situation, with details on the damage set to be released later today.

There has not yet been a comment from Russia on the overnight attack. Since the war began in 2022, both Russia and Ukraine have denied
