LUCKNOW: Prof Dhruv Sen Singh, a faculty in the geology department of Lucknow University, was conferred the National Geoscience Awards (NGA) for 2019 in a ceremony held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, on Tuesday.
Union home minister Amit Shah and Union minister of mines Prahlad Joshi were present. Several other scientists from across the country were awarded for their contributions in geosciences.
The NGA is the highest award in earth sciences in India. Prof Singh has been awarded for geo-environmental studies and achievements in the field of paleo-climate, paleo-environment and climate change.
Prof Singh told TOI that he is trying to apply geology for the welfare of society by working on river dynamics, river hazard and flood forecasting and glacier-related hazards and their implication for climate change.
