MUMBAI: PCI on Saturday began holding a national coaching camp for India's Tokyo Paralympics-bound para athletes at various Sports Authority of India (SAI) centres from July 12.
A record number of 25 Indian para athletes, along with their coaches and support staff, have begun their final preparations for the Paralympic Games, from which the PCI has high hopes this time. Some of the athletes have qualified for the Tokyo Paralympics with a world record performance, raising expectations of a record medal haul for India at the Tokyo Games.
PCI secretary-general Gursharan said: "Our aim is to help our athletes get the best-possible training to prepare for the Tokyo Paralympics. We are in constant touch with the athletes about their requirements and are trying to cater to their needs. Even while there are certain restrictions due to covid protocols, we are doing our best."
PCI president Deepa Malik believes that India would achieve their best-ever medley tally in the Tokyo Paralympics. "The world will see India become a major power in the field of para-athletics. In the Rio 2016 Paralympics, all of our four medals were won by our para athletes. This time, we will not only increase our medal tally, but also stamp India's presence at the Games," Malik said.
