Napoli defender reveals Celtic transfer offer and points to 'most important step in my career'

Napoli defender Amir Rrahmani has revealed that Celtic attempted to sign him in the summer.

The 26-year-old centre back turned down a switch to Parkhead in favour of a transfer to the Naples club – a move he described as the "most important step in my career".

Rrahmani was also targeted by Belgian side Standard Liege in the summer, prior to his Napoli switch. Things haven't quite gone to plan for the player since he signed for the club, and he's yet to start a match for Rino Gattuso's men.

The Kosovan international says he still has faith he can make an impact at his new team, even if he can't get a place ahead of Manchester City-linked Kalidou Koulibaly.

He told Supersport in Italy: "The club has invested in me since they bought me, their idea was to sell Koulibaly but the coronavirus upset everything and things went as they went.

"I have been told that I am an important part of the team and I believe that the moment will come very soon. I had offers from Celtic and Standard Liege, but in the end I signed for Napoli, it was the most important step of my life."

Rrahmani's agent claimed the defender previously turned down a move to Celtic last year when he departed Dinamo Zagreb to sign for Verona.
